Our experienced dental assistants are very experienced and are involved in continual training, both within the practice and outside the practice. In order to achieve a high level of delivery of dental services coupled with personal caring, the assistants meet weekly and provide input into how best to serve the patients.
Hope S. – Clinical Administrator
I became interested in becoming a dental assistant in my late 20s. After having a great fear of the dentist all my life, I found a dentist who put me at ease. This dentist was remarkable and had great chairside manner, explaining all my procedures, and I asked a lot of questions. He said that in all my questioning him, I seemed very interested in the field and maybe I should go to school to be an assistant. So, that got the wheels turning.
As a mother of a 5-year-old at the time, I made a commitment to return to school. With the love and support of my family, I was able to quit working and I worked towards my diploma in dental assisting. I had to take a lot of prerequisites to secure my place in Wake Technical Community College’s competitive entrance program. After working hard to get the requirements the college required, I applied in the spring of 2012 and began my journey.
During my attendance at Wake Tech Community College, I fell in love with dentistry and providing comprehensive dental care for patients. I was able to find my gift in life, and that was to understand how patients feel and put them at ease. I find great joy in educating patients and this seems to put their fears aside. Just like years ago for me, I remember how it felt to be in the dental chair. Graduating in 2003 with high honors from Wake Tech, I began my life’s career in the dental field.
During my free time, I enjoy the company of my dog (Basset Hound mix) and cat (calico). I go to the beach any chance I get, as with any outdoor activity. When I feel really adventurous, I enjoy taking a piece of thrift-bought furniture and making it into something beautiful. Most of my furniture has been refinished!
I came to Hardy Smiles in August 2015 as Clinical Manager and have enjoyed every minute of my work here. To work along with this staff and doctors, who are compassionate and caring towards all of our patients, is a great reward. We provide comprehensive care for our patients, putting our patients’ best interests first.
Sharica C. – Dental Assistant
I have been with Hardy Smiles for the past 8 months and am already enjoying the feeling of home and closeness with my co-workers. I graduated from Wake Tech Community College in 1998 and have worked as a dental assistant for 18 years. I especially enjoy explaining treatment needs and going over the procedures with patients to help reassure them through the process. We sincerely care about our patients’ over all oral health care.
On my off work time, I enjoy participating in fun activities with my four children, ages 13, 15,19 and 20. They like to play sports, go skating and go swimming. When I get down time by myself I enjoy running, relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
Lisa L. – Dental Assistant
I kind of fell into the field of dentistry. I started in Franklinton with Dr. J. A. Farkes as an assistant floater in his office. He noticed that I had an eagerness to learn a new field and had confidence in me to send me to dental assisting school, accelerating my journey to becoming a Certified Dental Assistant. I now have a total of 28 years of experience in all fields of dentistry with the exception of orthodontics. Three of those years were spent working at the front desk. I especially enjoy assisting on root canal and oral surgery procedures. I am confident in my ability to discuss with each patient their dental treatment needs, their insurance coverage, and their out-of-pocket cost so they can be worry-free and quickly move forward with a pain-free experience.
Outside of work, I enjoy going to church, reading, baking, relaxing at the beach, and watching the cooking channels. I love family unity. I have three grown sons, two of which live here in North Carolina and one that lives in Killeen, Texas. I also have seven grandchildren. My boyfriend and I enjoy traveling to the beach, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and fishing.
I love helping people and giving them the joy of being able to smile and eat comfortably.
Amber T. – Dental Assistant
I officially started here at Hardy Smiles in the beginning of July 2016 after temping here for about a month, and I gladly accepted a full-time position. I have an AAS degree in dental assisting and I passed my DANB certification test in 2011. This practice is enjoyable to work in because everyone is very caring and truly has the patient’s best interest at heart. There is a family feel between coworkers; everyone gets along really well and we have fun together.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading. I also like painting and drawing – I’m an artsy person. I hope to contribute to the office by giving my best every day and continuing to be my sweet self.
